Public Notification

The Department of Livestock notifies the general public that misinformation about Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) has led to unnecessary anxiety within the communities. It has come to our attention that misleading information has been circulating in various social media platforms regarding the potential of Lumpy Skin Disease to affect human and on the safety of consuming milk or dairy products.

The Department reiterates that Lumpy Skin Disease is not transmissible to humans and the circulating misinformation is entirely baseless. There is no risk associated with consuming milk or dairy products. However, the Department strongly advises the general public to consume milk after proper boiling.

To address the ongoing LSD outbreak situation effectively, the Department of Livestock with support from local government has launched a mass vaccination campaign against LSD across the country. As of August 27, 2023, a total of 20,867 cattle populations, including Yaks, Mithuns, and Buffaloes have been vaccinated against LSD.

The Department kindly urge the general population to avoid sharing unverified information that can contribute to unnecessary panic. Should you have any doubts or require clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Department of Livestock or contact us via toll-free number 1244.
