Capacity Development for Technical Staff and Progressive Beekeepers of Bhutan in Nepal

The two technical staff from the National Livestock Research Centre (NLRC), Bumthang, and two progressive beekeepers from Haa and Bumthang underwent four days of training on managed beekeeping in Nepal from 11th to 14th December 2023. The training was organized with the main objectives of developing technical expertise in honey product processing, packaging, branding, promotion, and marketing. The mode of learning during the program was through classroom teaching, practical demonstration, and field visits.

The training was held in Ramnagar, Bharatpur, Nepal, and facilitated by Gor Honey & Natural Food Products and Gorkha Bee Private Limited. After the training, the participants are expected to come up with the following plan of action:

  • Share learning experiences on beekeeping management & practices including new technologies
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy/plan for product processing, packaging, branding, promotion, and marketing of honey products
  • Implement product processing, packaging, and branding for high-value honey products in the country

The training program was supported and funded through JSB-UNDP project IV in Thimphu.
