Potato harvest at Phobjikha in full swing

Farmers in Phobjikha under Wangdue are currently busy harvesting potatoes, the main cash crops for villagers.

Kinley Wangmo, one of the potato growers, is expecting a good harvest this year from her 76 decimals of land. She added that the production was not good last year.

The Phobjikha valley is known for its seed potato crop as the soil and atmospheric conditions in the valley are free from insects and diseases that normally affect this crop.

According to records, more than 2000 acres of land are used for potato cultivation every year, producing an average yield of around 5 MT an acre.
