Republic of Slovenia State Secretary call on H.E Sanam Lyonpo

7 May 2025: The Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Livestock received a four-member delegation led by Mr. Marko Stucin, State Secretary of the Republic of Slovenia, on 7 May 2025. During the meeting, Lyonpo stated that despite the geographical distance and differences in economic scale, Bhutan and Slovenia share many common values worth celebrating and building upon. Both countries are deeply committed to sustainable development and green growth, with a strong emphasis on preserving forest cover and natural resources.

Key areas of discussion included water management, organic agriculture, agri-tourism, agri-tech, precision farming, and product development and marketing. A particular focus was placed on beekeeping (apiculture) — a field in which Slovenia boasts over 150 years of expertise. The Slovenian delegation expressed interest in supporting Bhutan’s efforts in honey production, modern apiculture practices, and the creation of value-added bee products.

Both sides also explored opportunities for exchange programs involving farmers, youth, and technical experts, aimed at fostering knowledge sharing and capacity building.

The visit marked a meaningful step forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation in sustainable agriculture and rural development.
