The Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India have reached a landmark milestone with the signing of a Business-to-Business (B2B) agreement to facilitate the formal import of fertilizers from India to Bhutan. This agreement, signed between the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Royal Government of Bhutan, and the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL), a Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of India, marks a significant step forward in strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement will enable Bhutan to formally import 5,000 MT of fertilizers from India annually, ensuring a timely and adequate supply to meet the country’s agricultural requirements. The signing took place on 18 August 2025 in Shiliguri, West Bengal, India, with Royal Government of Bhutan represented by Department of Agriculture, and Government of India represented by BVFCL.
This development is expected to greatly benefit Bhutan’s agricultural sector by providing a reliable supply of fertilizers, thereby enhancing crop productivity, improving farmers’ livelihoods, and contributing to national food security and economic development.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the exceptional support extended by the Government of India, particularly through their Mission in Bhutan, the Embassy of India in Thimphu, whose facilitation and cooperation were instrumental in making this agreement possible.
