27 August 2025: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Technical Cooperation in the field of Agriculture, Livestock and Allied Sectors was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Royal Government of Bhutan, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India in Thimphu. The signing of the MoU marks a significant milestone in advancing Bhutan–India cooperation and reflects the deep ties of trust, friendship, and shared priorities between the two nations.
During the Joint Technical Working Group (JTWG) meeting held alongside the signing, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in critical areas such as dairy sector improvement, post-harvest management, food processing, biosecurity, and agricultural trade. Technical sub-committees were agreed upon to accelerate implementation, while institutional linkages with ICAR, NDDB, and FSSAI will enhance research, innovation, and capacity-building opportunities.
The Royal Government of Bhutan acknowledged the Government of India’s vital support under the 13th Five Year Plan, which has been instrumental in enabling transformative interventions in agriculture and livestock. Both delegations emphasized that the MoU will not only boost food security and rural livelihoods but also further strengthen the enduring partnership between Bhutan and India in shaping resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.
