Hands-on training on Veterinary Critical Care and Emergency Management

The National Veterinary Hospital, under the Department of Livestock, successfully conducted the third and the final cohort of ‘Hands-on training on Veterinary Critical Care and Emergency Management’ in Trashigang from April 21-26,2025.  A total of 17 participants comprising of veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals from the Eastern region took part in the program.

 

The training was conducted in three cohorts with the fund support from GOI PTA as part of the short-term training program approved by the RCSC for FY 2024-2025. In total 64 veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals were trained from Regional Livestock Development Center-Kanglung, Regional Veterinary Hospital and Epidemiology Center – Deothang, Gelephu & Phuntsholing, Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospitals of 20 Dzongkhags, Satellite Veterinary Laboratory – Nganglam, and National Veterinary Hospital.

The training was instrumental in equipping staff in the frontline with necessary skills and knowledge to manage the growing number of cases requiring emergency and critical care.

The training methodology involved lectures, case-based learning, group discussions, hands on practical sessions and exposure to advanced critical care equipment.

The National Veterinary Hospital extends sincere appreciation to the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) and the Department of Livestock – Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MoAL) for their ongoing support. This training initiative has proven to be an essential step in strengthening veterinary emergency response capacity and improving animal welfare in critical care scenarios. Continued professional development initiatives such as this remains vital for the advancement of veterinary services in the country.
