13 May 2025: The Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Lyonpo Younten Phuntsho, welcomed Ms. Rushnan Murtaza, the newly appointed UNICEF Country Representative to Bhutan, along with her team.
The meeting revolved around deepening collaboration in key areas such as nutrition, youth engagement, agricultural transformation, women’s empowerment, healthy eating habits, and social and behavioral change communication.
Lyonpo acknowledged the contributions of UNICEF to Bhutan’s development journey.
Lyonpo highlighted Bhutan’s strong emphasis on food and nutrition security under the 13th Five-Year Plan. He shared key national initiatives including Chirrup Farm, Million Fruit Tree Project and One Child, One Egg Per Day nutrition campaign, and piloting inclusion of quinoa in school feeding program.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration for the health, nutrition, and overall well-being of Bhutan’s children and youth.
