Bhutan participates in the Second UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4)

The Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Livestock is leading Bhutan’s delegation to the Second UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4), being held from 28-29 July 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy.  Delivering the country statement, during the high-level opening of the event, Lyonpo stated, “We gather here not just to reflect, but to renew our resolve, for in these times of climate stress and rising inequality, food systems transformation is no longer a choice, but a necessity.”

Lyonpo also stated that Bhutan is committed to a bold vision to achieve food and nutrition security, climate resilience, and inclusive and sustainable prosperity through conscious and sustainable approaches. Highlighting Bhutan’s progress in advancing inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food systems, Lyonpo attributed to the enlightened leadership of Their Majesties the Kings, under whose visionary guidance, the nation has harmonized economic advancement with environmental stewardship.

Acknowledging the urgent global need for food systems transformation amid growing climate stress and inequality, Bhutan reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to this agenda as a vital pathway to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and called on the international community for deeper collaboration, increased investment, and sustained support in transforming agrifood systems.

At the sidelines of the Summit, the Bhutanese delegation will meet with heads of development partners for continued collaboration and a stronger partnership for food systems transformation.
