This is a very contagious and deadly disease for birds that can also occasionally make people sick.
To help stop the spread, the department urges everyone to:
• Keep backyard chickens locked up and away from wild birds.
• Avoid bringing in any illegal poultry or bird products.
• Immediately report any sick or dead birds by calling the hotlines at 1224 or 1555
